Coming off a tough 11 inning district loss to Hickman County, the Yellow Jacket baseball team hoped to get back on the right side of the scoreboard entering the 2016 Cheatham Co. Wood Bat Classic. They achieved that goal as they swept the three games and won the Classic. Fairview displayed excellent pitching and defense throughout the entire tournament as their pitchers only allowed 3 runs throughout the 3 games in the classic. The solid pitching was led by Junior Dillion Collier, who pitched a complete game shutout against Westmoreland. Sophomore KK McKinney had another outstanding performance on the mound with a 5-2 complete game victory over Cheatham County. Sophomore Sam Graham, making his first ever varsity start, struck out 10 Fort Campbell batters en route to a 10-1 Fairview win.
Maybe the biggest surprise of the weekend was the offensive displayed shown by the Yellow Jacket hitters. In a tournament that only allowed wood bats, one would think that offense would be hard to come by. This was not the case as the Yellow Jackets put together 3 of the best hitting performances of the year. Homeruns bookended the offensive explosion as Junior Zach Darby opened the tournament with a 2nd inning homerun against Westmoreland and Sam Graham hit a 2 run homerun against Fort Campbell.
Fairview returns to district play Monday at Home against district rival Lewis County.
