Yellow Jackets fall in extra innings to Creekwood

Less than a week after opening up the season against the Creek Wood , the Fairview Yellow Jackets Baseball team traveled to Charlotte, TN to take on Red Hawks. The Jackets came out hot scoring 4 runs in the first inning. Junior Dillion Collier led off the game with an infield single. Junior Stephen Bledsoe drew a walk, which brought Junior Max Mangrum to the plate. Mangrum making his 1st start of the season made the most out of his first at bat as he doubled to left centerfield scoring both Collier and Bledsoe. The Jackets added two more runs in the inning.

Collier making his 1st start on the mound this season was excellent in keeping the Red Hawk hitters off balance throughout the night. He only allowed 1 earned run through his five innings of pitching. The Red Hawks however scraped and clawed their way back into the game tying it up in the bottom of the 5th. Sophomore KK McKinney entered the game in the 6th inning to pitch to the top of the Red Hawks lineup. McKinney did an excellent job mixing up pitches as he was able to shutout the Red Hawks in the 6th and 7th.

Playing in their first extra inning game of the year, the Yellow Jackets tried to mount an offensive attack in the top of the 8th. The Red Hawks were able to get out of a bases loaded situation with some nice defensive plays by their middle infield. The bottom of the 8th saw Creek Wood score the winning run on a pass ball with bases loaded and 2 outs. The Jackets move to 0-3 on the season. They will be off the rest of the week and will return to action March 29th at home against Nashville Christian.
